UBBI Northern Region Hosts It's First Event of the Season

March 21, 2011 (Stephenville, Texas)  The United Bucking Bulls, Inc (UBBI) has enjoyed some great success so far in 2011.  The weekend of March 18th & 19th was continued proof that breeders are excited about the new opportunities the UBBI is giving the industry.  The Northern Region hosted it’s first event of the season, while the Southern Region saw it’s 5th event so far this year.  UBBI breeders arrived in Salina, Kansas and Winnie, Texas with 169 different 2, 3 and 4 year old bulls to compete this past weekend.

The Salina Challenge UBBI Derby & Classic was held inside the Agricultural Hall on the fairgrounds and attracted 48 bulls from Kansas, Oklahoma, Missouri, Nebraska, and Texas.  On Friday night, 22 Derby bulls duked it out and when the contest was complete, “The Darkness” was number one.  It’s owners, Lynn Rice and Mike Lane added $2079 to their winnings so far this season that now totals almost $6600.  Second and third place was a split in the Derby with Box K Cattle Company’s “Captain Caveman” and Dwayne Walls/Johnny Monger’s #819.  Each bull won $1489.   In fourth place, “White Noise” of Jon Russell and Johnny Monger’s won a check for $1039 and in fifth place was “Blow Out” from the McCoy Ranches winning $832.

The Classic in Salina had 26 four year old bulls competing and Boss Bucking Bulls from Kansas won the event with #742-5 “Houdippen” and pocketed $2293.  In second place was Dustin May with “Rainman” winning $1802 and third place was Bar Y Bucking Bulls #1566.  Bar Y Bucking Bulls picked up a check totaling $1310.  Bull #701 “Best McCoy” from Cord McCoy placed fourth and won $1065 and rounding out the top 6 places were #741 from Steve Lukens/Johnny Monger ($901) and #725 “Pig” from Kenny Jack($819).

The third monthly event in Winnie, Texas saw 121 bulls entered in the Futurity, Derby and Classic events.  Bridges and Smith finished on top in the Futurity with bull #724 with a score of 88.25 points and won $2268.  The Derby was won by Show Sports (Shane George) & Carpenter with their bull #851 “Thirteen” with a score of 89 points, earning a check for $2841.  The Classic was a split with two bulls from Lufkin Ranch & Rodeo.  Geronimo and Black Widow both scored 88.5 points and both earned $2315.
