UBBI Members Take Advantage of All Region Qualifier in Cheyenne Wells

For the second year in a row UBBI members have taken advantage of the All Region Qualifier event in Cheyenne Wells, Colorado.  The event attracted 53 entries this year with 17 Derby bulls, 18 Classic bulls and 18 Futurity bulls from members in Idaho, Colorado, Kansas, Oklahoma, Missouri and Texas representing the Northwest, Western, Northern and Southern Regions.

“This event is developing into a great event for members who live outside the Southern Region,” explained Randy Schmutz, general manager of the UBBI.  “From the beginning, the UBBI wanted to create a system that would allow bull owners to compete in their immediate area and qualify their animals to our UBBI National Finals without having to travel to Texas or Oklahoma where most of the bucking bull competitions are held!”

The Cheyenne Wells UBBI Event is one of several that has attracted new members to participate this year.  The Futurity was a tough event with #071 Air Snortin’ from McConnell’s Bucking Cattle/K.S. Bucking Bulls winning first place with a score of 86.75 points and earning $2025.  Second place went to Symons Bucking Bulls/Misenhimer’s bull # 193 Shakedown with a score of 86.25 points and third place was Shane Reeder/McConnell Bucking Cattle’s bull #421 Red Zone with a score of 86 points.

Phil Markoff, a UBBI member who participated in the futurity had this to say, “Greg Talbert and the UBBI put on a really good event.  Although we did not do well with our bull, it was great to see old friends and make some new ones.  We really enjoy what the UBBI is doing!”

In the Derby, new member Brent Huwa won the Derby with bull #108 Honey Badger with a score of 88.25 points and hauled in a check for $2443.  Second place went to bull #810 Black Out owned by Hadley Cattle/Around 3 Bucking Bulls with a score of 87.75 and third place finisher was JW Bucking Bulls’ #380 Kit & Kaboodle with a score of 87 points.

The Classic featured a battle between the #1 and #2 ranked UBBI Classic bulls.  Only $232 separated the number one bull, For Sale owned by McConnell’s Bucking Cattle/Kenny Vaught and Neon Ocean owned by Bryan Smith.  When it was over For Sale extended his lead by winning Cheyenne Wells with the highest classic score this season tallying a whopping 92.75 points to win $2587.  There was a spoiler in the bunch from Talbert/XS Ranch with bull #954 Mr. Big Shot scoring 89.5 points and placing second and Neon Ocean finished 3rd with 88.25 points.  The top two bulls are now separated by $1784 and the race is on to determine the 2013 UBBI Classic Champion.

The UBBI National Finals is scheduled for September 26-28 at the Kansas Star Casino in Wichita, Kansas.
