Cranky Cat Cranks It Up in Roswell, New Mexico

The UBBI once again produced an All Region Qualifier in Roswell, New Mexico on July 25th and 26th at the Eastern New Mexico State Fairgrounds.  The event was hosted by Marc Andrus who produces the bull riding as a memorial for his son Jesse Andrus and his friend Mike Hillman.  Jesse and Mike were tragically killed in an accident while rodeoing in April of 2010.  The first Jesse Andrus & Mike Hillman Memorial Bull Riding was held that summer in July of 2010.  Proceeds from the event have been awarded to High School Rodeo athletes in the form of scholarships each year.  Almost $40,000 in college assistance has been presented to area High School students since the start of the event.

“This is the second year in a row that Marc Andrus has allowed us to produce a UBBI competition in conjunction with his event and we were especially excited to see the large number of entries this year,” stated Randy Schmutz, the general manager of the UBBI.  “Marc has hosted a Don Gay Bull Riding event in Roswell for the past 4 years. This event gives members in the Region system an opportunity to qualify for the UBBI National Finals!”

This year’s Roswell attracted 40 Derby, 18 Classic and 37 Futurity entries for a total of 95 bulls.  Members from 9 different states and 5 different Regions participated.
