Lucky Draw #13 Wins UBBI Futurity Super Series High Point Championship

The number 13 has long been considered by most to be an unlucky number.  The bull branded #13 and owned by Tom & Tish Peterson proved that isn’t always so at the third and final leg of this year’s Wayne Hodges 4 Star Trailers UBBI Futurity Super Series.  In a come from behind win, Lucky Draw #13 split 2nd & 3rd in the futurity event to win the Super Series High Point Championship and new 4 Star Aluminum Trailer from Wayne Hodges.

The UBBI Super Series celebrates it’s third year in 2013.   UBBI members had the option to enroll their futurity bulls prior to entries closing for first Super Series event at the Spring Spectacular and pay an additional “one time” $300 Super Series entry fee.  That fee enrolled their bull or bulls into 3 Super Series events and made them eligible to win cash bonuses at each of the three events. The top 4 placing “Super Series” eligible bulls shared $6,800 in bonus money at each event.  The High Point Super Series bull was awarded the 4 Star Aluminum trailer.  If one bull had one all three Super Series events that bull would be crowed the Super Series Champion and earn a $100,000 Super Series Bonus!

At each of the three Super Series events, enrolled bulls receive a point for every bull they beat at event. Leading the race with 165 points coming into the final Super Series event was DAM Cattle Company’s bull #110 What A Burger. Only 5 points separated the number 1 bull and Lucky Draw #13.  In third place, and not competing was Heifer Hunter owned by Barrett and Prewitt, trailing by 7 points.  Rounding out the top 4 was Air Snortin’ owned by McConnell’s Bucking Cattle/K.S. Bucking Bulls with 156 points.

“Tom’s bull Lucky Draw #13 proved that steady wins the race,” explained Randy Schmutz, general manager of the UBBI.  “Lucky Draw #13 placed in the Top 6 at each of the three Super Series events and beat a lot of bulls to win the trailer!”

Peterson’s “lucky” bull placed 5th at the Spring Spectacular and earned $1677 in event earnings but picked up no Super Series bonus money.  At the second Super Series event in Shawnee, Oklahoma Lucky Draw #13 split 6th and 7th place and earned $1572 in event earnings and 4th place bonus money of $680.  At the final event in Palestine, Texas he split 2nd and 3rd place with a score of 88.5 points, earned $2388 in event earnings and $1700 in bonus money.  Total Super Series earnings were $2380 for a $300 entry fee plus $5637 in regular event earnings for a total of $8017 and a new 4 Star Trailer.
