Entries Continue to Be Strong at UBBI Events

With only a few events remaining on the 2014 UBBI schedule, entries continue to be strong. At the event in Palestine, Texas on July 18th and 19th almost 200 bulls were entered for competition. Specifically there were 60 Derby, 33 Classic, 49 Youth Futurity and 54 Futurity entries for a total of 196 bulls!

“All I can say is. . . . ‘Wow!’,” stated Randy Schmutz, the general manager of the UBBI. “It’s really exciting to see the number of bulls being entered and competing in July and to see the number of new members joining our organization and being successful!”

Speaking of new members, Dee Bland along with partners, Wolfe Creek Cattle brought two new derby bulls and placed 1st and 4th. Bull #104 Spring Fever posted a score of 90 points to win the derby competition and earned a check for $3450. Bull #110 What-A-Burger finished 2nd with a score of 88.75 points. Moss Brothers returned to action with bull #626 Hard Time and scored 88 points to finish in 3rd place. Dee Bland & Wolfe Creek Cattle won 4th with a score of 87.75 points with bull #118 California Kid. Other members earning checks were Dale Glory/David Bailey; Rocking R Bucking Bulls; Chase Foutch/Duane Brinehold; Casey Courmier; Martinez Bucking Bulls; Tom Peterson and Ace of Spades.

The event continued on Saturday morning with a record number of Youth Futurity entries. A total of 28 different Youth members participated with 49 different bulls. The Youth Futurity rules state that the youth participant has to flank his or her bull, but can be assisted by a parent or guardian. The UBBI decided to try something new and instead of allowing a parent or guardian to assist, all youth participants were helped by a UBBI staff person and UBBI member (stock contractor).

“We wanna give these kids an opportunity to flank these bulls and experience that sense of accomplishment and gain confidence in what they’re doing,” explained Randy Schmutz. “The kids wanna learn to do this on their own and I could see that they all enjoyed themselves!”

Baylee Burleson has enjoyed success in the Youth Futurity Series and posted another win with bull #653 Flip Flop, scoring 89.75 points and winning $1764. She also placed 2nd with bull #23 Big Ox with a score of 88.5 points. Baylee’s brother, Blaine Burleson placed 3rd with bull #02 Lone Ranger with a score of 88 points. Finishing in 4th place was Brandon Stewart with bull #243, scoring 87.75 points. And splitting 4th and 5th place were Two Brothers Bucking Bulls (Westin & Orin Cobb) with bull #260 Blessed and Jacquelyn Williamson with bull #293 Flash Back. Both bulls posted scores of 86.5 points. Other youth members earning checks were Logan Flip, Wolfe Boys Bucking Bulls, Quin McCoy and Grace Stinet. (Click HERE for related Youth Futurity Story)
