Stephenville, Texas (January 24, 2011) – Sixty-nine 3 and 4 year old bulls arrived in Amarillo to fight it out to see who was best at this year’s Battle of the Bulls.  This was the second stop on the 2011 UBBI schedule and also featured an outstanding group of bull riders as a part of the Don Gay’s Pro Bull Riding Tour.

There were 30 three year olds in the Derby competition on Friday and it was Lyndal Hurst with his bull Bermuda Triangle twisting his way to the number one spot.  With a score of 89.5 points, Bermuda Triangle earned $3,042 and a Tres Rios Silver Buckle.  But Hurst didn’t stop there.  Hurst, with partner Derald Riche, were also the Reserve Derby Champions, earning another $2,340 with Showboat with a score of 88.75 points.

Diamond S Bucking Bulls and partners Bob & Jeri Adams, Curtis Leschyshyn, Jerry Tuttle, Bruce Felberg and the Desert Orchid Ranch placed in the money with 3 of 4 bulls entered and earned a total of $3,607.  Sandi’s Dream and Snot Shot split 2nd & 3rd, both earning $1,579 and Lawmaker split 7th with KP Bucking Bulls #878, both earning $468.  Also finishing in the money were Marty Kilgore with Hou’s Your Saviour and Jeff Harris with #61, with checks of $1,111 each.  Fees for the event were $600 and $11,700 was paid out to the top 7 bulls.

Thirty-nine 4 year olds filled the chutes on Saturday night and Dr. Bill Clymer didn’t have to drive far to pick up his first place check and his Tres Rios Silver Buckle.  Clymer who lives 10 miles outside of Amarillo, won 1st place with Santiago with a score of 88.25 points and a check for $3,498.  This was Santiago’s second paycheck this season, also earning NBBA money ($1,575) at Denton on January 8th.  Carolyn Mock’s bull, Wild One earned Reserve Champion honors and $2,586. 

Rounding out the top 9 money spots were Air Patrick (Nothin’ But Try Ranch) splitting 3rd, 4th and 5th place with KP47 (KP Bucking Bulls) and Big Casino (John McDonald) all earning $1,724 each.  In 6th place, Red Neck (Carlton Partin) $1,217.  Seventh place went to Poison Ivey (Jason Ratchford) $1,065.  Eighth place was Orange Blossom Special (Owens/Cuenca) $913.  Splitting 9th place 3 ways were One Eyed Jack (Lyndal Hurst), Check Your Six (Lynn Rice/Mike Lane) and Speck T (Bill Clymer) all earning $254.  Fees for the event were $600 and $15,210 was paid out to the top 9 bulls.

Fifty-one bull riders competed on Friday and 47 on Saturday as a part of the “new” Don Gay Pro Bull Riding Tour and $13,320 was paid out to the top riders over two performances, including a “Rank Bull Rider Bonus” of $250 each night to the cowboy who got on the winning bull in the Derby and Classic.

The next stop on the UBBI schedule will be Nutty Jerry’s in Winnie, Texas on February 11-12.  This event will feature a Futurity, Derby and Classic  and the 3rd stop on the Don Gay Pro Bull Riding Tour.
