Buck Bonner Benefit Bull Riding & Cowboy Reunion

UBBI Headquarters (May 16, 2011)  Family and friends of Buck Bonner, along with the UBBI & Don Gay Bull Riding Tour, will host a Benefit Bull Riding & Cowboy Reunion on May 29th in Maxwell, Texas.  The event will be held at The Cotton Gin Arena just oustide of of San Marcos.

Buck, 31, has been riding bulls since the age of 4 when he attempted his first calf.  At 13 he qualified for the YRA Finals and won the Year-End and Finals Steer Riding Championship.  Twice he won the Cowboys Professional Rodeo Association (CPRA) Finals Championship at the young age of 16 and 17 years old.  When Buck turned 18 he purchased his PBR membership and went on to win checks at Bud Light Cup events in Louisville, Kentucky and Laughlin, Nevada. 

Buck Bonner has made his mark in professional bull riding and it’s left also left it’s mark on Buck.  On February 26th at the Don Gay Bull Riding Tour event in Stephenville, Texas he sustained several serious injuries.  After being thrown, his face, chest and neck was stepped on.  He broke his jaw, fractured 3 ribs and the C6 vertabrae in his neck, ruptured his spleen, which had to be removed and sustained serious cosmetic damage to his lower lip and chin.  He was rushed to Fort Worth, where he underwent surgery and spent a week in the hospital.

Buck is recovering, but will undergo additional surgeries to rebuild is lower jaw and cosemtic surgery to repair damage to his lower lip and chin.  The Buck Bonner Benefit Bull Riding & Cowboy Reunion will raise money to offset the cost of his enormous medical bills and upcoming surgeries.  The day’s activities will include Mutton Bustin’, Junior Bull Riding, a Don Gay Bull Riding Tour event, Open Bull Team Competition, Barbeque & Crawfish will be served and live music from 4 different bands.  All the excitement will kick off at 2 pm.  In addition, there will be a live and silent auction with a lot of western lifestyle items donated and several breeders have donated semen and live breedings to be auctioned.  It’ll be a fun and exciting day and ALL money raised will go to the Buck Bonner Medical Fund.
