Bar B Arena Plays Host to Second Event of the Season

The Bar B Arena in Mineral Wells, Texas played host to the second UBBI event of the season and attracted 166 bulls.  With 42 Derby, 43 Classic and 81 Futurity bulls arriving in Mineral Wells, the competition was extremely tough.  Billy Blue, owner of the Bar B Arena did a great job welcoming everyone with a Cajun style Crawfish Boil and calcutta to kick off the weekend on Friday afternoon.

“We had a tremendous amount of talent in the bulls that came to Mineral Wells,” stated Randy Schmutz, general manager of the UBBI.  “It was a really tough set of bulls and a really fun weekend!”

The Derby was the first event on the schedule on Friday night with 42 entries and paying 8 places.  Bull #X18 U Freakin Kiddin Me from Flying D posted a UBBI season high 89 points to win first place and almost $3,000.  Finishing in second place was High View Cattle Company’s bull #037 with 87.75 points and in third place was McCoy Ranches #014 Spear My Gear with 87 points.  Completing the top 8 in the Derby were #042 Rollin Smoke from Rockin M Cattle Company, #026 from Lane & Keel, #037 Betta Be Movin’ from Rockin M Cattle Company, #-3 Split Your Wig from McConnell’s Bucking Bulls and #906 from Frontier & Ray.

Action resumed on Saturday morning at 10am with 81 bulls in the Futurity contest.  Diamond S Bucking Bulls bull #195 finished on top with a score of 87 points and earned $3,280.

“He’s a direct son of Houdini and out of a Skat Kat daughter,” explained Shane Dunham (from Diamond S Bucking Bulls).  “He’s a little bitty muscle man with big horns!”

Finishing as reserve champion in the Futurity was bull #255 from Frontier & Ray.  In third was Tom & Tish Peterson’s #131 Top Shelf and in fourth place was bull #Y5 Blue Jacket from McConnell’s Bucking Bulls/G&P Bucking Bulls.  With splits for last place with scores of 84.5 points a total of 18 bulls received a check in the Futurity.

The Classic competition proved to be a little tougher on Saturday night, only producing 2 qualified eight second rides.  The top two finishers were new to our competition with bull #W999 Ballistic from Hookin W taking first place honors and bull #921 Cujo from N&N Farms finishing second.

In third place was #646 Living the Dream owned by Don Fox and now being hauled by McConnell’s Bucking Bulls and in fourth was #JL02 Patrick from James & Linda Hogue – J&L Ranch.  Finishing in the top 8 and receiving a prize money check were bull #119W from Dennis & Jan Owens, Wrangler 30X from Daniel Gonzales/Circle G, #+912 Hot Pink from Wilburn Bucking Bulls and #965 Cajun Hot Line from Blood Line Bucking Stock.

The next event will be in Salina, Kansas and will be an All Regional Qualifier.  Bulls competing from any UBBI Region (Western, Northwest, Northern, Midwest, Eastern) earning money in Salina, Kansas will earn points in their Region toward qualifying for the UBBI National Finals.
