Ten thousand dollars per second is certainly a good payday! Multiply that by 5 seconds and you get a cool $50,000! That’s exactly what Selman & Terrell earned with their superstar two year old bull #279 Bottoms Up. Bottoms Up beat a field of 142 bulls by only a 1/2 point to win 1st place at this year’s UBBI Gold Standard Futurity, posting a score of 90.5 points. But the climb to the top wasn’t easy. Rafter 3S and Donaho set the pace with their bull #1201 High Cost of Living with a score of 90 points.  High Cost of Living was the second bull to buck in the Gold Standard Futurity and it was clear from the beginning that this year’s event was gonna be a tough one. High Cost of Living ultimately finished as the reserve champion and earned $15,000.

“I was really excited about the talent we saw at this year’s Gold Standard Futurity,” stated Randy Schmutz, general manager of the UBBI. “These bulls came from 14 different states and the depth in this set of bulls was impressive! It was exciting for the UBBI to be able to payout $142,000 and to give a deserving member $50,000 for their hard work! It paid off!”

Finishing in 3rd place was bull #121 from Rawson Bucking Bulls, earning $10,000 with a score of 89.5 points.  Two bulls split 4th and 5th place. Holthusen Bucking Bulls, from Illinois with their bull #209 Bad Beagle and Keel/Walgren/Barrett’s bull #212 Locke & Loaded both posted scores of 88.75 points and both earned $6500 each.

The remaining Top 10 finishers included Flinn/D&H Cattle; Diamond S Bucking Bulls; Henry Mladenka/Fred Robinson/Bridges & Smith; Aduddell/Owens and Marc Andrus.  The event paid out a total of $142,000 and paid 30 places.

In addition to the Gold Standard Futurity, the UBBI also hosted the Diamond Futurity which attracted 27 entries.

“We put together the Diamond Futurity last year to add value to the Gold Standard weekend, allowing participants to bring additional bulls to compete with,” stated Randy Schmutz. “The entry fees for the Diamond Futurity are $650 and it pays back 65%.  Money won at the Diamond Futurity also counts toward qualifying for the UBBI National Finals!”

of 88 points, earning $3442.  Splitting second  and third place was Poison Creek Buckers bull #266 Thrill Ride and Nathan Wolfe’s bull #452 Western Justice.  Both bulls scored 87 points and earned $2467 each. Placing 4th was bull #218, also owned by John & Sydnee Donaho.  Bull #218 scored 86.5 points and picked up a check for $1721. John & Sydnee Donaho, together with their partners, Rafter 3S and Jim Murff won a total of $22,788 with two bulls in the Diamond Futurity and 2 bulls in the Gold Standard Futurity. Rounding out the top 5 and earning a 5th place check was bull #249 from Diamond S Bucking Bulls with a score of 85.75 points and earned $1377.

Blood samples were collected from the Top 5 bulls in the Gold Standard Futurity for testing as per the UBBI’s banned substance testing policy. Prize money checks were held pending those results.

“It was another great event at the Sycamore Springs Ranch and Jerry Rush and his crew once again welcomed us with open arms,” stated Schmutz. “We are very excited to say that we will once again return to Locust Grove for the 5th annual Gold Standard & Diamond Futurity on April 24th & 25th in 2015!”
