2017 Gold Standard Futurity & Black Gold Derby Recap

For the seventh year in a row, the United Bucking Bulls, Inc hosted it’s annual Gold Standard Futurity and Black Gold Derby! These events have always featured one of the largest regular season payouts and this year was no exception. The Gold Standard Futurity attracted 96 entries and paid out $96,000 dollars in prize money to the Top 20 placing bulls. When the scores were all tabulated and officially posted, it was bull #569C Twisted Soul from D&H Cattle/Buck Cattle taking home the gold buckle and the $25,000 cash!

Finishing in a close second place position, by only .5 point was Barthold/Berger/01 Cattle’s bull #C7 Cartel with a score of 88.5 points and winning $11,715. And in third place was a bull from Louisiana owned by TD Cattle/6M called Flatbill Jeff, scoring 88.25 points and earning $7,455.

The Black Gold Derby attracted 64 three year old bulls and there was no denying how tough all the bulls were. All of them were prepared to fight for their share of $64,000 in prize money!

It’s not unusual to see Denny McCoy in the winnner’s circle, but this time his wife Janet was on hand to share in the celebration. McCoy Ranches’ bull #Tc4441 Wileywood Blue posted a huge 89.25 point score to out-distance the second place bull by 1.75 points to win $15,000! Mike Sellers with the UTC Ranch won second with a score of 87.5 points with his bull #UTC411 How Bout It, earning a check for $10,800. And in third place was New Star Pro Rodeo, with their bull #422 Socks, who scored 86.75 points and grabbed a check for $8,160.

The Rhinestone Renegades women’s futurity hosted another stop on this year’s UBBI schedule of events the girls showed up with 15 bulls and duked it out to see who had the best one. Tracie Griggs came to play with 3 entries and finished 1st and 2nd place with bull #516 winning the #1 check for $1,012 dollars with a score of 86 points and bull #570 Brothers Keeper placed second with a score of 84 points and won $810. Finishing 3rd was Nicole Harris with her bull #563.

This year’s Gold Standard Futurity and Black Gold Derby was held in Ada, Oklahoma at the Pontotoc County Agri-Plex and a BIG thank you goes out to JR Grissom and his crew for all of their hard work to make this a great event again this year!
