Eighteen Derby bulls and nine Classic bulls from 6 different states and 4 Regions competed in the first of five events in Burbank, Ohio.

“We’re really excited for the breeders in this Region,” explained Randy Schmutz, the general manager of the UBBI.  “We’re hoping this will give these UBBI members an opportunity to compete for good money and a chance to qualify for the UBBI National Finals!”

The Derby was a really tight race with only a quarter point separating the 1st and 2nd place bulls.  Bull #017 Blue Ice from Creek Bend Ranch & Jonathan Fehr topped the field with a score of 89.5 points and picked up a check for $2,587.  From South Carolina, #30 California King from WT Bucking Bulls with a score of 89.25 points finished second and added $1,552 to his win column and his regional standings and is now the number one bull in the Eastern Region.  Mike and Amanda Trimble finished 3rd with their bull #-9 Circle City.  Circle City posted a score of 88.25 points and earned $1,035.

Breeders from Ohio, Pennsylvania, Indiana, Missouri, Louisiana and South Carolina participated.  The Buckin Ohio Series is held in Ohio and is a part of the Midwest Region but money earned at this event will count for both the Midwest & Eastern Region UBBI standings.

“The events in Burbank, Ohio are co-approved for both the Midwest and Eastern Regions,” shared Randy Schmutz.  “We only have one event this year scheduled in the Eastern Region (Tunica, Mississippi). These events in Burbank, Ohio will allow a breeder from the Eastern Region to participate and if he earns money at these events that will count for his Eastern Region standings.”

The Classic featured 9 bulls from 8 different breeders.  Creek Bend Ranch & Rueben Yutzy’s Bull #40B Johnny Be Good put up a score of 91.5 points and won first place and $2,587.  In second was RC7 Horse & Cattle Company’s #866 with 90 points and splitting 3rd and 4th place was #129 Street from Folds/Strickland/K-C Bulls/Sparklin Acres and Soggy Hill Cattle Company’s #184 Denali.  Both bulls were marked 89.25 points.

The next event in Buckin Ohio Series will be held on July 28th.
