It’s 9 months until the 2012 UBBI National Finals, but several breeders have put themselves into contention after the first event of the season. Nutty Jerry’s in Winnie hosted the event on January 27th and 28th with 179 two, three and four year old bulls from 123 different breeders and 6 different states. Participants from North Carolina, Mississippi, Louisiana, Texas, Oklahoma and New Mexico arrived in Southeast Texas to start the new year. Thirty-seven bulls were entered into the competition by 29 new UBBI members.
“It’s really exciting to see this organization grow and attract new members and see the return of folks from last year,” stated Randy Schmutz, general manager of the UBBI. “In 2011 our first event was in Winnie and we had 113 bulls. To see an increase of 66 bulls at our first event of the 2012 season is phenomenal! The competition was as tough as I’ve seen and it’s early in the season. This year is gonna be really exciting!”
